Happy Belated Canada Day!
3 Jul

Canada Day was celebrated without too much fanfare. During the day, my parents and I went to dim sum at a restaurant (more like diner) that specialized in steamed dumplings.
Later that afternoon, I headed downtown to meet up with OBF. I got there a little early, so I hung out at a cafe with some chocolate espresso ice cream, a cookie, and a crossword while I waited. I’m getting really good at the “being alone in public” thing!
OBF showed up with PL, which I wasn’t expecting. I still hadn’t really gotten over how unforgivably rude and judgmental she had been that weekend, but I kept my mouth shut because I hadn’t told OBF what happened.
We went to see a play put on by an independent company that was a modern spin on bedtime stories. The concept was pretty good – they went through Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs, and Cinderella, which are all great stories – but the script was kind of cheesy and the omniscient narrator got very annoying very quickly.
After the play, we went to a coffee house to catch up. As we were deciding where to go, PL‘s obnoxiousness started to rear its ugly head.
OBF: I’m kind of hungry, let’s go somewhere with food.
Me: I already ate, so you decide. I’ll just get a drink or something.
PL: X Bar has good food, and decent cocktails.
Me: Oh, I can’t drink, I’m driving.
OBF: X Bar sounds good, let’s go there.
PL: Well, if only one of us is ordering food and she’s not ordering an alcoholic drink, we should probably go somewhere else.
OBF: Um…
Me: Ok, let’s go to a cafe then.
Honestly, I don’t understand why PL is always so concerned with how others will perceive us for not ordering enough, or not ordering drinks, or not ordering expensive items. I think I am the exact opposite, I never give these things a second thought, I always order/act however I want, and if a waiter treats me badly, I just don’t tip as generously. But I usually never get treated badly because I’m pretty friendly. So PL should just lighten up. If she stopped being an obnoxious bitch, maybe she won’t have to drop tons of money just to get friendly service!
That night, we went to the lake front to watch the fireworks. I love fireworks, and so did PL, so we both cheered up considerably.
On the whole, it was a pretty good Canada’s Day. The only thing missing? Strawberry shortcake.

Damn, you are all about dim sum. Those dumplings look SO delicious. I don’t get that mentality. Why not order whatever you want off the menu? If it’s on the menu, then go for it. If they expected you to get the most expensive thing, then they wouldn’t even have cheap stuff on the menu, right? I’ve never thought about such a thing while dining.
Anyway~ glad you had a good Canada day. Hopefully you got to relax a little after THAT JOB. lol
Thanks! Canada Day was July 1, so I actually started work the day after. BUT the good memory can last a little while at least.
Also, tomorrow I’m going to lunch at a really nice restaurant, and then going to see a play, so I will get to relax :)
Don’t know how I will survive a full week of work though, I’m already exhausted after only two days!
I see! Well, I really hope you can have fun! Definitely treat yourself like crazy on your days off! @_@;
I love looking at the food you post, by the way. Some of it I’m not sure I’ll get a chance to eat, so I revel in looking over the pictures. lol So if you get something yummy at lunch, share! (haha I’m sure you would anyway~)
The food left my mouth watering!!! Girl, I need to come to Canada just to eat with you for a week, haha!
Happy Canada Day. :)
Do it. I could seriously take you on the most amazing food tour.
haha that cake looks good!
and thanks, I was quite nervous about meeting my bf’s mom..all good now though :)
Ahh this makes me want to go back to Canada (I just want some Tim Hortons haha). The dumplings look reeeally good! And the fact that you mentioned strawberry shortcake made kind of hungry :P
As for your friends, I don’t see why they wouldn’t just let you order whatever you want. I mean, why would you have to get drinks?! It’s a good thing that you just act whichever way you want to. There’s really no need to impress people you’ll probably never see again (in restaurants and such).
Watching fireworks is fun :) I can’t wait til tomorrow for all the independence day fireworks! xx
It’s so weird to hear you say that because the other day I was just commenting on how foreigners seem to LOVE Tim Horton’s the most about Canada. I find that hilarious since I eat/see it so much that I’m sick of it! But I guess I will feel differently once I leave Canada.
Do you watch How I Met Your Mother? They always make fun of Canada, do you get that a lot?
Haha yeah I do watch How I Met Your Mother – but no, I never get that! Maybe the occassional “Eh?” but no ones says “aboot” or “hoose” :P At least, the accent isn’t that obvious. And to us, some Americans speak funny ;)
omg omg those dimsum looks really delicious! :d
and fireworks! Ah, they’re one of the most beautiful things human ever created, lol
Thank you for making me hungry >.<
Also, I don’t understand PL’s concern either. I mean, wow, you’re going to eat and NOT drink alcohol … EEEK! The end of the world is approaching!!! OMFG, so stupid!
Firstly, thank you for commenting on my blog. (:
Secondly, those red bean pancakes look delicious! I’m jealous that you have such a cool traditional resturaunt to go to, while we mostly just have standard buffets, etc.
As to the girl, I have a friend just like her, so I get why you’re annoyed. I usually ignore it, but sometimes it’s a little too much.
Happy late Canada Day!
