One revelation to go, please

17 Jul

After work today, I met up with BBB downtown. After wandering around the mall, we ended up having dinner with a few high school friends I hadn’t seen since graduation.

And you know what I realized?
I’ve changed.

The Un-Birthday

17 Jul

Next Tuesday is my champagne birthday1. I am turning 21 on the 21st of July.

I had wanted to do something special for this day. I have always made a big deal about birthdays, so my 21st, of all birthdays, should not go uncelebrated. I didn’t want much, just to have some champagne, maybe some cake, and be surrounded by good friends.

But, from the way it seems, next Tuesday will pass unnoticed.

I love him, I love him not.

Do you remember my tweets about hating Post-It notes?
This changed my mind.

And instead of associating it with the hateful Post-It notes I write every day at work, I was reminded of the Post-It notes MFL used to leave in my locker, when he wanted to cheer me up but had to leave school before me. Another haunting to add to the “ghost sightings” list, I suppose.

The Ghost of Boyfriends Past

11 Jul

They say that time and distance will heal all wounds. But it seems no matter where I go, I cannot escape the ghost of boyfriends past.

Whenever I see roses, I think of the bouquet MFL surprised me with one rainy Sunday afternoon.
Whenever I hear Linkin Park, I think of CJB.
Whenever I see anything orange, I think of HB.
Whenever I see a boy holding an umbrella for a girl, I think of the rain shower GB and I were caught in on our way to dinner. He held the umbrella over me the whole way, even though he was getting rained on.
Whenever I see turtles, I think of the many turtle-themed gifts MFL and I exchanged, and the photos he took in Costa Rica with the turtle plushie in the foreground, representing me being there with him.
Whenever anyone mentions street racing, I think of HF.
Whenever I see a couple splitting an ice cream sundae, I think of DB.
Whenever I see a Chinese buffet, I think of PKB.
Whenever I make egg fried rice, I think of the first meal I ever made for MFL.

It seems the ghost of boyfriends past will always haunt me.

TGIF: Sugar, caffeine, and painkillers

10 Jul

Summary of my week:

  • Writing 25 post-it notes in one day, and only resolving 5 of them.
  • Being sent on multiple errands to the post office.
  • Using said errands as an opportunity to buy candy/chocolate/snacks1, which I then stashed into my bottom left drawer, officially dubbed Candy Drawer.
  • Giving myself sugar highs to get through the workday, along with pumping myself full of caffeine and Advil.
  • Spending a total of 18 hours commuting to and from work. Which resulted in losing my magazine virginity to2 Cosmopolitan. Now I know how to Pleasure Him in 15 Sexy Ways, and Get Hit On in Under 2 Seconds!
  • Feeling professional/useful by editing and sending out several statements of claims. Signed, sealed, and delivered baby.
  • Meeting friends after-work for dinner, accompanied by wine of course.

Why do you thank God it’s Friday?

  1. The convenient store near the post office has an assortment of Asian candies, surprisingly, so my Candy Drawer now contains lichee candy, mango mochi, and an assortment of chocolate. []
  2. I think I am the only 20-something shopaholic who has never purchased or subscribed to a beauty/lifestyle magazine. []
