Thank you for your cooperation.

So I transferred my domain hosting today, from one Dreamhost account to another. I was in such a hurry to get it done (I’ve been putting it off for weeks) that I forgot to export my WordPress entries. So they’re gone.
I am crushed.
I deserve it, I mean I knew better. For some reason, the fact that I was transferring the domain within the same host gave me a misplaced sense of security such that I completely forgot the need to do a thorough backup.
Anyway, I have some entries saved in various places, so I will painstakingly try to reconstruct what entries I can. Your comments, however, are lost to the netherspace. My apologies.
Will get back to my regularly schedule blogging in a few clicks. Thank you for your cooperation.
Edit: I am a genius! Somehow, I managed to get all my entries and comments and pages and links back! Yes, it took a few hours of fiddling with SQL tables, but I did it! I am so impressed with myself right now, can you tell?

Argh, losing past entries would be horrible :x As far as I can tell, you’ve got at least a few pages of entries back, at this point, so that’s good I guess. Losing everything would not be fun. Is it possible to get backups from Dreamhost, though?
I had an old back-up with entries, but I’ve lost all the comments =[
I’ve contacted Dreamhost because I noticed my MySQL database was still there (in the recycling bin, I can’t access it). Hopefully, they’ll have a solution.
On the bright side, I now have hosting for another year! Girlandcity.com lives on!
try this wayback machine, its helped me before…http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
Nope, no results. Thanks though.
I have a possible solution for you. If you have the mysql file in your recycle bin, then right click and click restore. I think you should be able to recover everything from this mysql file if it was a mysql backup.
Go to your home drive (for me its C). Its the drive where your operating system (Vista in my case) resides. Once inside, click on Tools -> Folder options. Then click on the view tab. There will be an option “Hidden files and folders.” Click the radio button beside the option “Show hidden files and folders.” Click on apply and then ok.
Go back to your home drive and try to look for a folder named “program data.” In all possibilities, the mysql backup you restored would have stored here on one of the folders. This is where “your copy” of your website could be stored ( some website hosting companies do that) and you can find the files you were looking for.
It’s not on my computer, it’s all on Dreamhost’s server. Thanks though.
Oh gosh, I understand how you must feel :( I’m so sorry!!
But what you can do is keep building! Your old readers know your entries and remember them.
I remember clearly your entrie from when you were interviewing for your dream job in Asia back in the day and then when you got it!!! Funny how, just like you, I want to head to Asia for consulting, I had such different aspirations then and had thought you to be adventurous and out of the box! Guess I am too now, haha :)
I’ve been able to get a lot of my entries back, but not the comments =( Which makes me really sad because I know I had some really insightful comments left on my entries. Still working on it…
But yeah, I was going to say it’s funny how you were so impressed when you first read my entries and now you’re going after what you want with the same gusto! Congrats to both of us!
