This is a list of characters who I have mentioned at least two times. The most recent are at the bottom. This page will be updated as needed.
The BFFs List
Zee: One of my best-friends at university. We hung out a lot in first-year but not so much anymore. I’m very protective of her, because unlike me, she is completely vulnerable in a totally obvious way.
EnigmaticRebel (ER): He was a BFF in my first-year of university, but lately he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Apparently he had a crush on me when we first met, but nothing ever happened there (or is going to happen).
BaseballBrownieBoy (BBB): (otherwise known as EmailPal #1) A friend from high school, we didn’t really get to know each other until our last year there. He had a crush on me, we went out on one date, but it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re still friends, keeping in touch mainly through email. I can always count on him to make me laugh and tell me the truth about things. Really, really great guy.
PerfectHusbandBoy (PHB): He’s an old friend who I only see once or twice a year, and every time we hang out, he treats me so well that I cannot believe a guy like him exists. Although we are strictly friends, he really is perfect husband material.
PenpalJoy (PJ): She was a friend I made through blogging, and I didn’t meet her in person until my first year in university. We wrote letters to each other for over a year, but then life took over and our penpal system was put on hiatus. The first time I met her, we got on like a house on fire, but we didn’t really have a chance to bond in person since we went to different universities in different cities. Lucky for me, she moved to my city after she graduated, and now we’re in regular contact.
AngryLittleSquirrel (ALS): A friend since high school, she is one of the dorkiest, but coolest, girls on the block. She’s a refreshing change of pace from the other girls at university, and one of my most avid listeners. She’s not into the whole dating scene yet, but when she gets into a relationship, I’m sure going to miss her.
FeminineFashionista (FF): (otherwise known as PerfectFeminineGirl) I got to know her through ALS, and I refer to the three of us as “The Sisterhood.” She went to an all-girls private school before university, so she’s much more refined and lady-like than I’ll ever be, but she nonetheless has a lot in common with me.
WriterAndFashionista (WAF): WAF and I were an unlikely pair, as I did not really talk to her until Grade 11. At first, I thought that WAF and I were very different, but I came to realize that we had more things in common than I cared to admit. She’s always been a bit more rebellious than I, and her life has far more extreme ups and downs than mine, but in a lot of ways, we are driven by the same desires and urges. In Grade 12, she disappeared, barely coming to school and spending most of her time with her boyfriend, who attended an all boys school uptown. Strangely, we became better friends after graduation, to the point that I always see her when I go to The City.
OldBestFriend (OBF): OBF and I became fast friends the moment we met in Grade 7. We were both socially insecure and inexperienced, and we found loyal confidants in one another. We did everything you would expect from thirteen-year-old girls: we’d spend hours on the phone, we made lists of boys we liked or could potentially like, and we were there for each other through the emotional turbulence of early high school. We drifted apart in Grades 9 to 11, but re-kindled our friendship in Grade 12 and picked up right where we left off. Although we were no longer the needy, insecure girls who would talk on the phone for hours, we were forever pledged to be loyal confidants to one another. To this day, we still consider each other to be the best of friends, even though she goes to school in a different country than I and I only see her a few times a year.
BeautyInsider (BI): She was in my class in TheBusinessSchool but we didn’t really become close until the Boston trip, when we realized we had the same “tourist habits.” As in, when in Rome, we would like to do as the Romans do, and also visit art museums/galleries and try some fine dining along the way. We may have bonded over this similarity at first, but these were symptomatic of greater similarities in lifestyle and expectations. She is older and wiser, and I love going to her for advice. If I had an older sister, I imagine she’d be something like BI.
The Boys List
MyFirstLove (MFL): The Big Boyfriend of my high school years. The standard to which I compare all future boyfriends. We have a long history but we’re still close friends.
HappyBoy (HB): HB was my first crush after MFL. He is really adorable. Unfortunately, my entire phase with him was set in Ambiguity Land where we go out but he had a girlfriend the whole time. Our friendship was extremely strange since we acted like a couple, even though he and I both knew he had a girlfriend. I was rather confused too but I was too busy getting over MFL to worry about it. When I go back to Toronto, I still hang out with him, although he has a new girlfriend now and I have accepted that we will never be an item. But god, he is sooo cute.
PersistentKoreanBoy (PKB): We got to know each other under the pretense that he was hiring me for work, but it turned out he was trying to woe me. I had a very hard time getting rid of him, since he was extremely persistent, which culminated into the drama that was Valentine’s Day 2007.
GuelphBoy (GB): One of the guys I dated in the summer of 07. He was surprisingly sweet, but it just didn’t feel right. Plus, I completely screwed it up. We don’t talk anymore.
RalphLaurenBlueBoy (RLBB): Named after his cologne, he is one of the sexiest boys I’ve been with. It was a short-lived fling though. I still run into him from time to time, but we don’t hang out.
SeriousChinaBoy (SCB): I met him in class in the summer and we clicked right away. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to hang out with him as much I’d have liked. Anyway, he’s got a girlfriend now. He was single the last time I ran into him, but he made a very bizarre and self-conscious comment about his weight gain – I find guys who worry about their weight deathly unattractive. It’s bad enough that I have to deal with girls who want to look like stick insects, I don’t need guys bitching and moaning about it too!
YoungandRestless (YAR): A mistake, is what it is. He’s a guy I knew from high school who ended up coming to my university. I went on one date with him, and considered going on a second one, until I found out he made out with one of my friends.
HardworkingKoreanBoy (HKB): A really sweet pen-pal I met online who HASN’T EMAILED ME BACK.
DreamyEyedBoy (DEB): A flirty boy in TheBusinessSchool who I really get along with. From his actions on the Boston trip, he seems to really like me. BUT: he’s in a long-term relationship, but how committed is he? and he is a Chronic Flirt.
NinjaBoy (NB): Flirty boy #2 in TheBusinessSchool, who makes me feel uncharacteristically feminine. From his actions during karaoke nights 1 and 2, he seems to really like me. The only problem is, he’s in a committed relationship- oh wait, we’ve heard this story before.
